Yes, let's buy an island. A talent agent would have no trouble having
enough to do, with all of us--(as long as there are fax machines and a
few flights out and back a month, it should work fine).
As for Mr. Buchannan--a good friend of mine who has been involved in
national politics for the D. party for years said that the word is--if
Buchanan isn't destroyed politically by corporate interests (because of
his free trade ideas), they'll find another way to keep him from
capturing the Republican nomination. I don't think that we have to worry
a whole lot--the big boys who are always eating each other alive will fry
this fish. However, this kind of brinksmanship had better wake us all up,
and get more artists and writers, who are the conscience of a society, to
become involved in politics. Remember how we judge artists of the 30's
who said that the intellectual life was separate from politics? This is
that time--no time for denial and wishful thinking. And, as the Irish
have always known, there's nothing like pointing out the absurd and
killing a guy with laughter.
