Have you ever seen him live? You would swear it was Taliesin himself, though
he wears jeans and clogs and usually faded cotton shirts. When he performs
the present is swept away and you are in some ancient hall listening to a
bard of old. Then he picks up an accordian or fiddle or guitar and smashes
you back into the present, or does a bit o' Burns or a British pantomime with
all the parts and all the hat changes, or recites a Wee Jack tale, or has the
audience sing along on "Green Grow The Rushes O" or something...
He used to perform in December every year here, culminating in a Christmas
Eve performance. Up until the last year I saw him it was always in a private
home. It got so that Yule doesn't feel right without those concerts. We
used to go nearly every night he played and sit spellbound.
I was fortunate enough to be able to take harp lessons from him for a few
months, and became quite well acquainted with him and count those days as
treasures. He is definitely one of a kind.
