I want to come down on the side of those of you who *do* believe in
racial memory. Psychology tends to support this concept! Jungian
Psychology in particular refers to it as "the collective unconscious".
Jung saw this as the "...Psychic residue of human evolutionary
development, a residue that accumulates as a consequence of repeated
experiences over many generations."....".....Racial memories ...are not
inherited as such; rather we inherit the *possibility* of reviving
experiences of past generations. They are predispositions that set us to
react to the world in a selective fashion...."
Our celtic myths and legends are the means by which we convey the residue
in the form of *archetypes*. I think Jung would say that these cut across
all races and cultures...and I agree to a point ...but my racial memories
will color the way and the perception of the content but not the meaning
of the archetype, etc. In other words the content is the same for all
cultures but the way it's expressed may differ. Notice how the Greek
myths have many of the *same* themes as the Celtic myths ? Same story
only the names are changed.
Funny how one branch of science will say one thing while another will say
something different! Go figure? ;)
