With the intention to keep illegal immigrants out of California,
the government of the U. S. built a large fence (should I said
offense?) along several tenths of miles in the border of Mexico.
This expensive and almost useless construction was immediatly known
as "the tortilla curtain". Perhaps, here is where the title of the
book comes from. If I am right, Excelsior could be the name of a
newspaper. During that time, Excelsior was one of the most
influential newspapers in Mexico.
