1. According to what I have read, the umlaut was officially dropped from
the Russian 'yo' (soft 'o') in 1970. Would anyone on this list happen to
know *why* this was done in official literature?
2. My contribution to the discussion of foreign-language fonts: the
only commercially-available PS Cyrillic fonts tend to be either bad or
expensive, or in some cases both...and my academic experience tends to
indicate that font support for foreign languages is very poor regardless
of your location. Among other things this is a real drag for a student
whose primary academic emphasis is foreign languages. At this point, I
find myself forced to let it roll off of my back, so to speak...
