>Thank you Clement for your comments.
Hi April, nice to hear from you again. Glad no know that you are alive and
kicking and of course getting through the Canadian winter.
Now to your meessage...
>However, I was unhappy to see that you did not mention a service
>that has been very (I mean VERY) reliable for 7 years. This is the
>site at Ilorin. Mrs. Ome Mejabi has been running this for this
>length of time and it has been, sometimes the ONLY, one that has
>been running. She is part of the Nigerian group for the initiatives
>for obtaining Internet. I am sure that she would be very unhappy to
>hear that this service, in particular, is nothing to write home
>about. She has tried to strive for a particular type of service
>that is not encumbered by the institutional view.
Thousand apologies for missing that one out. A lot is happening and is very
easy to get lost and step over some important local/national initiatives
like the one by Mrs. Ome Mejebi and her colleagues. The error is mine and I
accept full responsibility. We can certainly write a line or two home about
this on. Mrs. Mejebi, please keep up the good work and tell us more about
>At present she is maintaining her site with her own private funds and
>those of people dedicated to continuing her vision for her community.
>Among them, I count myself, who has been helping Mrs. Mejabi for 7
>years achieve this goal. We might not be well known but we are, and
>I can assure you of this, extremely visable within Nigeria.
I agree!! Mrs Majebi and her colleagues are doing a good job. The size of
Nigeria can sometimes be unkind to individual initiatives of local
'technology champions'. The important thing is that their initiative is
making an impact.. Thats good enough for some of us.
>If you or your colleagues would like to have further information
>there is a web site, now as well maintained at
>http://www.netaccess.on.ca/nigeria/ which might give you some
>information, from her point of view regarding what has been
>happening. There has been a recent article that was written
>by Ome in the FID News Bulletin Vol 45 Issue 7/8 of July/August
>95 (ISSN 0014-5874) regarding the site and what has been happening.
>This article has not yet been put up on the site but shortly will be.
Thanks, we check it out.
>If there are any messages that you or your colleagues would like to
>send to Ilorin or surrounding area please let us know at
>[log in to unmask] We will be glad to help you.
I am sure people will take up the offer. For my part, please kindly mail
Mrs. Mejabi and her colleague my comments to your observations. Please lets
hear more from them also. Nigeria is too important to ignore.
>Although we are not loud voices we are nonetheless a voice in a vast
>wilderness and sometimes would like to be heard.
You said it all. Dont't worry, April we are hearing you LOUD & CLEAR.
Bye and again Thanks for letting us know.
