Thank you Clement for your comments.
However, I was unhappy to see that you did not mention a service
that has been very (I mean VERY) reliable for 7 years. This is the
site at Ilorin. Mrs. Ome Mejabi has been running this for this
length of time and it has been, sometimes the ONLY, one that has
been running. She is part of the Nigerian group for the initiatives
for obtaining Internet. I am sure that she would be very unhappy to
hear that this service, in particular, is nothing to write home
about. She has tried to strive for a particular type of service
that is not encumbered by the institutional view.
At present she is maintaining her site with her own private funds and
those of people dedicated to continuing her vision for her community.
Among them, I count myself, who has been helping Mrs. Mejabi for 7
years achieve this goal. We might not be well known but we are, and
I can assure you of this, extremely visable within Nigeria.
If you or your colleagues would like to have further information
there is a web site, now as well maintained at
http://www.netaccess.on.ca/nigeria/ which might give you some
information, from her point of view regarding what has been
happening. There has been a recent article that was written
by Ome in the FID News Bulletin Vol 45 Issue 7/8 of July/August
95 (ISSN 0014-5874) regarding the site and what has been happening.
This article has not yet been put up on the site but shortly will be.
If there are any messages that you or your colleagues would like to
send to Ilorin or surrounding area please let us know at
[log in to unmask] We will be glad to help you.
Thank you for your time, understanding and patience.
Although we are not loud voices we are nonetheless a voice in a vast
wilderness and sometimes would like to be heard.
