When I read Brooke O'Kelly's message I could hardly believe my
eyes. Among other racist remarks she wonders why "the Black community
cannot pull themselves (sic) up past the point of their crime-ridden
streets and the hostility they hold . . ." I would like to point out to
Ms O'Kelley that her rantings are remarkably similar to the crap that the
hard-line unionists spout against Irish Catholics in the Six Counties.
When institutionalized job discrimination and other civil rights
violations exist, it isn't so easy to "just go out and get a job." I
encourage Ms. O'Kelly to travel to Belfast and try to get a job with a
last name like hers.
Furthermore, I'm sure that Blacks in L.A. and we Irish Catholics could
share a lot of similar stories about brutal treatment at the hands of the
police. I know my family can.
