Hi... I am excited to hear someone else refer to that theory. My undergrad is
in Psych (gosh that makes me sound sooo old <smile>)
Well, it has been awhile but I can try to explain from memory: Carl Jung,
like all the other popular psychologists' are famed on their theories, which
can be applied to anything or anywhere u find a correlation.... Correctly
applied? It all depends on opinions... (I know this is not helping, huh?!)..
Anyhow, if your instructor said that the Celts don't have Romanian archetypes
that is his opinion ... my opinion is... he doesn't know the full variation
of "archetypes". AND??/OR!! he is biased (I hate when college professors try
to drill their political BS into us)...
Anyhow, Jung was born in 1876 (?) or that era... and that is about when the
world seemed square... another words, people didn't know what they do today!
The theory was founded on the belief that all primitive tribes all over
instinctually believed in, what Jung refers to as "myths". and that has to do
mainly with their belief in God... All over he found that generation to
generation, individuals believed in a Supreme Being, and therefore were made
of the same model. It is a greek or latin word (sorry not good with the
languages.. <smile>) meaning "the original model/pattern"... Inferring that
all humans are conceived of a particular model or form. This theory was a
result of his anthropological studies within the primitive tribes... he
referred to the "Collective Unconscious" as the source of "racial memories",
etc... No matter how the cultures differed, they all had a similarity in
their beliefs.. The theory is often applied to the hate that blacks have for
the white race. They say that the archetype is there.... however, it is not
something that can be validated by tests, etc... I know my father is adamant
on not supporting British government, although he wasn't even born until the
40's which was over 100 years after the famine.... I really don't understnd
it enough... remember, I am not a professional.. just a recent graduate..
Gosh.. it all came back to me once I started... I often referred to this
term... "archetypes" and people don't ever seem to catch on... And I try to
explain it.. but they don't understnd... I have been studying psych since
high school.. and the more I learn... the more I realize the importance of
Jungian and Freudian theories... Although they seem so perverted at first...
U have to dig deeper... and remember not to study these as FACTS.. they are
THEORIES... which are not always perfectly acurate...
What school do u go to? I am in LA area and I am sick of all the biased
teachings.. One teacher three weeks ago (while retaking a basic history
class... and the teacher was asking everyone to identify a cartoon pic in the
history book (he wanted everyone to guess) Well, he referred to the guy as
Irish... "How do u know that???" he asked the class... Everyone shouted
things out and laughed <highly populated liberal school>... He said.. yep!
<with a biggg grin> that is right, an Irishman, cuz he is unshaven, drunk,
unhappy, and lazy. I was so angry, all I could do is cry, cuz everyone was
laughing. My father was born and raised in County Mayo, and I just recently
learned of the Great Famine, and was disturbed by the way people can always
'down' the Irish, and think they are justified by the past slavery issues...
I wonder why the Black community can not pull themselves up past the point of
their crime ridden streets and the hostility they hold (not all are like
this, let me clarify, but in LA... most are).... especially learning of what
the Irish pulled themselves out of ... and trust me, the schools out here don
t teach Irish history.. u gotta do your own digging for that!
Sorry so long... hope this helped... u were asking for mail, huh?
