We are running a series of articles on Scotland's early history, and the
history of the so-called 'Picts' in particular, in our Celtic journal,
Dalriada. The main aim of this series of articles is to dispell the
myth of the 'Picts' as being non Indo-European, non-Celtic peoples. In
fact, as recent research now shows, all the evidence now
points to the Picts being Celtic peoples, both in linguistic and
The first part looked at the earliest historical references from
classical authors concerning the tribal peoples of Scotland - 300 BCE to
200 CE. The second part which is published in our November issue
continues by looking at various reports from both Roman sources and
from the Irish annals.
