My name is Ralph Lee. Currently I am researching in environmental engineering,
looking mainly at problems of environmental impact of industrialisation
in developing countries, at Strathclyde University in Scotland. I also have
interests in water resource management.
I am currently involved in setting up a link with a college in southern
Ethiopia, at a town called Arba Minch. This water technology institute is
involved in training of professionals in water, irrigation, and environmental
engineering. One thing that would really help communications with the college
would be an internet link. I know next to nothing about how to go about this,
aside from what I have picked up from this forum. I know that Arba Minch town
has very good telephone links with Addis Abeba, and therefore overseas. The
main problem is that there is a very dodgy 7 km long line from the town to the
college. Does anyone have any advice on how to go about getting going in this
sort of situation. There will be some money available, but clearly we are
looking for a fairly cheap, and maintainable solution to the problem.
I'm sure that I need to know many more things before getting going - if someone
could advise me, I would appreciate it!
