PURPOSE
 
The purpose of the conference is to provide a forum to explore the
structural impediments to expanding the use of Internet to the science
researchers in African and Caribbean Universities.  This conference should
elicit constructive solutions to such  problems.
 
 
OBJECTIVES
 
1.      To highlight the array of technical information and services
        available on the Internet;
 
2.      To discuss the problems of science and engineering education and
        research in Africa and  the Caribbean;
 
3.      To determine the special requirements for and  barriers to setting
        up Internet  connections in Africa and the Caribbean;
 
4.      To develop interest and support for connecting  African and
        Caribbean Universities to the Internet; and
 
5.      To provide a basis for collaboration to establish network
        connections in Africa and the Caribbean.
 
 
REGISTRATION
 
Fee:    Personal check, money order or bank draft (US funds) payable to ISAS
        accepted.

ABOUT ISAS:
 
The International Society of African Scientists (ISAS) is a non-profit
organization founded in 1982 to promote the advancement of science and
technology among peoples of African descent. It provides a medium through
which scientists and engineers can channel their skills to solve technical
problems facing Africa and the Caribbean. The current membership represents
a wide range of nationalities from Africa, the Caribbean and the Americas.
Membership is open to all who share the goals of the Society. For more

The Society sponsors annual conferences which explore the technical  needs
of developing nations. Recent conference themes include  'Waste Management
in Developing Countries' (1990), 'Agricultural Technology: Key to Self
Sufficiency'(1991),'The Role of Science and Technology in the Democratic
Ideals of Developing Countries'(1992) and  'AIDS in Africa and the
Caribbean: Enabling Communities to Find Solutions'(1994). The proceedings
of the conferences are published in ISAS Transactions, the official
publication of the Society.
