I have absolutely no experience with TeX (am just starting to learn about
it), but I've been following the "TeX-for-tunes" threads for awhile now and
find that I need to ask a few naive questions.
Almost all the messages I've seen so far involve TeX on Windows systems. I
hope I'm not the only Macintosh user on IRTRAD (!) -- is anyone out there
familiar with the Mac versions of TeX -- OzTeX, for instance? When you talk
about TeX being 'device-independent', do you mean that any TeX file can be
opened cleanly by any computer running TeX? (I'm thinking particularly of
Irish & Scottish Gaelic texts -- Macs & Windows don't assign the same
character codes to accented vowels so a Word (Mac) file gets garbaged up when
opened by Word (Windows). ) Or have I misunderstood what I've read so far?
Are there Mac versions of MusicTeX and/or abc2MTEX anywhere? In fact does
anyone know of a list or newsgroup where Mac/TeX fans hang out?
Thanks for any suggestions.
