I second Mike O'Regan's post about Paddy's! I'm a Big Fan. Several years back
a friend in Gaeilge class recommended the place for GOOD records &
Irish-language books. Mind you, Long Grove is not a convenient drive from
Chicago, but it's well worth it. I've bought all my dictionaries there
(O'Donaill's and Dineen's Irish-English and deBhaldraithe's English-Irish),
_An Tonn Gheal_ and other bilingual poetry collections, and Good Ol' _Buntu/s
But the records-- Mother o' God such a treasure trove! Every time I've been
there I thought I finally had got the last of the
Good Old Good Ones, and a few weeks later there are more! And I'm talking
about long out-of-print lps from Gael Linn, Claddagh, Tara, ... you'd never
believe it. I have no idea where he gets them from.
Fortunately there aren't a lot of us fanatics around to totally deplete his
stock. Most of his customers are tourists who are quite clueless about what's
in the store. They keep the rent paid buying Phil Coulter cds and <Kiss Me
I'm Irish> t-shirts.
Go there. Buy music. Enjoy.
