Those interested in the discussion about sessions and how singers are
welcomed, tolerated, or discouraged might be interested in the Thistle &
Shamrock program that's scheduled for the weekend of July 16.
"Traditional instrumentalists in Ireland and Scotland hone their skills as
sessions in music pubs, where one tune flows into another for hours on end.
Occasionally, a singer manages to suspend the tune set, lifting a song above
the general clamor to hush the bows and clinking glasses. We capture the
atmosphere of a session this week with music recorded in a variety of
locations, including Chieftain Matt Molloy's pub in Westport County Mayo."
