I think that the kitchen wins hands down. Ahh... the great Dowling
tune parties! I remember a few dingers!! Tim Britton & Skip Healey
were a hoot at the Dowlingfest '92 (or was it '93) kitchen of wonder.
Anyway, the main drawbacks I find in bar sessions- there is more of a
focus on the general glob-together effect than the group of friends
meeting for music and socializing. Milwaukee is getting a bit like a
competition sometimes. High ratio of "show-off" vs togetherness. I
can't quite put a finger on it, but it seems that there has been a
paradigm shift there. Oh well, we wait for the fest!
What is especially nice about a home "tune party" atmosphere is that
most of the people DO know each other well, and are usually friends
in the first place. No worrying about who is listening, if the bar is
getting crowded or rowdy, etc. World needs more Ceili houses.
