Hmmmm...amazing what you learn here! I've not heard the Planxty song,
but from this description it parallels a song in African-American
tradition, "Jesus Met the Woman at the Well." A re-working of the story
into the song "Jesus Give Me Water," as recorded by the Soul Stirrers,
with Sam Cooke on lead vocal, is positively bone-chilling! It's even
been picked up by bluegrassers....
