Combining tune names for sets. Our group likes the "Battle of Bonaparte's
Star", which is After the Battle of Aughrim, Bonaparte Crossing the Rocky
Mountains, and Star of Munster.
I've also enjoyed and learned the Tombigbee Waltz. I had no idea of the
meaning of Tombigbee until I was reading a letter to the editor in Dec. 92
National Geographic, which referred me to the March 1986 Nat'l Geo (yes,
there is a reason to save old National Geos, besides for the outhouse).
The Tombigbee is a river that passes real close to the Tennessee River,
and our friends the Army Corp of Engineers constructed a canal between to
enhance access to the sea on the Tennessee. The result has been reported
to have destroyed many wetlands and left folks on the upper stretches
of the Tombigbee relatively and economically high and dry, and with a $18
million annual federal subsidy, only result in 5 million tons of annual
transport. Amazing what tracing threads will lead to! Gary Newman
