The Boys learned it from James Bryan, the fine young fiddler from
northern Alabama. It's on James' first Rounder LP, "Lookout Blues."
James sez he learned it from Tom Jackson, a good banjo player that he
works with a lot (and who plays on "Lookout.."). It's credited as
traditional on James' album. I don't know of any versions prior to that.
In the notes to the LP version of the Boys' album, they cite James as
source, I believe, but don't know if it was direct, or via the LP.
