To prevent any potential confusion, I mentioned one tune I knew which
had survived its Irish origins essentially intact into old-timey and
occasionally bluegrass and called it O'Keefe's, but then realized I'd
given the wrong title -- it's called O'Gaffe's -- perhaps Larry O'Gaffe's.
I've heard it done in each tradition and it is recognizably the same in each.
There are a few other British Isles survivors like this (Moneymusk) but why
any one tune might survive, a second mutate, a third fall from transmission
is certainly obscure if not in fact impenetrable. R.C. Hamilton
