i havent read the book _Women of the Celts_ all the way through either.
however, it should be pointed out that there is a relationship
in irish mythology (notice not necessarily celtic, possibly) between the
goddess of sovereignty and kingship. the goddess (who in several cases
is Medb, but not the Medb of the Tain) gives a goblet to the king at his
induction ceremony, who then drinks of the goblet. i dont have my
sources at hand concerning this, but if anyone is interested i could
pop open my files and check it out for you.
