Was slavery of any real significance at that time? How would an owner
manage to keep slaves from escaping and disappearing into the general
populace? Were slaves more like "indentured servants"? I am in no way
taking exception to Dorothy's or anyone elses mention of slavery; I am
professing my ignorance and hope someone will enlighten me via a
