Thanks for the insights into J. Cunningham's attitudes about playing,
etc. After posting my note this morning I listened again to a bit of his
music on record, mostly from his "Fair Warning" album. Afraid he still
doesn't grab me. To my ears he sounds like he's emotionally on top of
the music instead of in the middle of it (if that concept makes any sense
to anyone besides me!) He impresses me greatly, but doesn't move me very
much--unlike, say, Sean Keane, who does both.
