Hello Paulette. the New York Fleadh is usally the weekend of June 5th, and it's
held at Manhattan College in the Bronx. The competitions are on the Sunday.
If you're a Comhaltas member entry is free, if not you pay $4 per competition,
and you can enter on the day if you pay $5 late fee. You can address enquiries
and entries to
Mrs. Terry Rafferty
229 Baldwin Avenue
Hasbrouck Heights, NJ 07604
You might want to call and check this because I know Mike Rafferty just formed
a new branch which may mean Terry isn't administering it this year.
In the Senior competitions you'd have to play four pieces. A slow air is
mandatory (for seniors), and three others, the choices being: reel; hornpipe;
jig (single, double, or slip); march; set dance; slide; polka.
There are some excellent players in the New York area, but in my entirely
unbiased opinion I think you'd walk the whistle competition. Ireland is a lot
tougher of course, because the players there have already gone through two or
three qualifying "rounds." Just be glad you're not in the Under-18 competitions
It's usually great craic, and An Beal Bocht is just around the corner. Hope
to see you there. Patrick
