A book that may or may not be useful is "The Amateur Wind Instrument
Maker," by Trevor Robinson, published by Univ. of Mass press. This was
first published in the early 70s and revised some time in the 80s. It
includes drawings and such for various wind instruments including, if I
remember correctly, flutes. Robinson is in the sciences at UMass
(bio-chemistry, I think), and makes instruments just as a hobby. Several
other makers in the are who I interviewed several years ago cite his book
as an inspiration, though these are all folks involved in early music,
rather than Irish trad music.
