Mea culpa mea culpa!
I just committed the sin that I'm always complaining about....sent out
a private message (regarding Irish flute players) to the whole list. Sorry.
So that this post isn't equally wasted, let me inform any new members of
the presence of a celtic music archive at celtic.stanford.edu, accessible by
anonymous FTP. It's only slowly getting off the ground, but should have enough
stuff in it by now to be worth exploring. The file /pub/catalog on the archive
contains an annotated list of the files.
For those of you interested in getting tunes over the network, John
Walsh transcribed about 60 popular session tunes (mostly out of the discussion
on this list) onto the abc notation and put them in the archive. You need the
document processor TeX to format them. I haven't yet installed it, but if anyone
has recently installed the whole package and would be willing to write a note
on how it's done, give me a shout.
Finally, if there's anything you'd like to see on the archive that isn't
there yet (yes, I know that covers a lot!), please let me know.
All the best,
