In some of the older buildings iaround Toronto there are carved images of the
green man in cornices and so on. Similar images can be seen here and there
in Ireland, where they are known as river gods. Apparently there are a
specific number of them, seven or something, one for each of the major
rivers of Ireland, each god has its own name, and those in the know can
tell them apart.
