Re the stone circles of Ireland?
Anyone have any opinions or whatever about who built these magnificent
monuments, what the people were like, and whether the circles were used
for human sacrifice or whatever. In going around Ireland looking at them
and talking to folks about them the impression is they were built either
by the Tuatha Da Danaan people who descended from the sky and are
remembered as the Little People, or the Fir Bolg people who were
dimwitted. And that the circles were connected by an intricate network of
broad trackways. And they of course has astronomical significance.
Most of the people I chatted with figured the builders were peaceful
people who had magical powers, and were not into human sacrifice.
They were non-violent, at least until the Celtic invasion when they
became fierce defenders of their land and were ultimately exterminated.
Others claim there never was a Celtic invasion, the Celts just sort of
seeped in gradually. Can anyone recommend one good readable and
intellectually respectable book, not-too-academic, on the subject--
particularly as it relates to Ireland.?
