| Re the stone circles of Ireland?
| Anyone have any opinions or whatever about who built these magnificent
| monuments, what the people were like, and whether the circles were used
| seeped in gradually. Can anyone recommend one good readable and
| intellectually respectable book, not-too-academic, on the subject--
| particularly as it relates to Ireland.?
There are many that have been written, some better than others.
One that is well and clearly written is Peter Harbison's "Pre-Christian
Ireland", which covers from Stone Age to Iron Age times.
There are many others whose exact titles and authors I can't remember,
because they're all so similar: "Pre-Historic Ireland", etc.
A book that is interesting for its assimilation of many facts, and
boldness to hypothosize about life and society at the time, amongst all of
the peoples of Neolithic Britain and Ireland, is Rodney Castleton's
"The Stonehenge People".
