Someone in Exeter subscribed to WELSH-L this morning and promptly
unsubscribed; I was curious so I sent him a quick note asking what
was up. Turns out he's a system operator helping out a colleague
in Cornwall, who heard about WELSH-L..... Here's part of what he
said (forwarded with permission):
[...] I was just trying out the listserv address
that appeared in the Western Morning News (in Cornish and in English) for
my colleague Dr Colin French of the Cornish Biological Records Unit based
in Pool, near Redruth. His unsuccessful attempt was due to a faulty table
on one of our very old SUN unix boxes.
Since subscribing worked from our quite new Silicon Graphics unix
boxes which we maintain properly, I unsubscribed and have suggested to
him that he try to subscribe in the same way. So you should notice
c.n.french@exeter or some such person subscribing soon.
He has a need to contact like minded people in Brittany. So I am
sure he would welcome any thoughts you may have on the matter.
[...] CBRU is part of the Institute of Cornish Studies, which in
turn is part of the University of Exeter.
This is great news, and follows on foot of many discussions both Marion
Gunn and I had with new friends and colleagues from Cornwall, Wales, and
Brittany at the Celtic Congress in Inverness and at the Eisteddfod in
Llanelwedd. Hope we can get more subscribers from Cornwall and Brittany
soon! I'd appreciate it if anyone could upload a copy of the article
from the Western Morning News (in Cornish and in English); I imagine
one of those new friends in Cornwall is responsible for it getting there.
