Edward lally asks what Breton is.
It is the Celtic language spoken in Brittany by about 500K people.
It is most closely related to Welsh among the living Celtic languages,
being descended from the Old West British spoken by settlers
from SW Britain who migrated to Brittany in the 6th-7th cent. It is
NOT, however, mutually intelligible with Welsh as much folklore
would have it, being related to Welsh at the same time-depth as
English is related to Frisian (close, but not mutually intelligible).
