I know it's possible to ride in a curragh to Inishmaan, since the
fishermen had to for quite some time. I'd personally want to choose a
sturdier form of transportation, like one of the boats that goes from
Doolin or Galway City. As far as language, I can only speak for Inishmor,
the "big" island, where they seem to speak English to English-speakers
and Irish amongst themselves. Based on my experience in the Connemara
Gaeltacht, I can't imagine there being any language barriers for
an English speaker. There are very few, if any, monoglots in the
Gaeltacht anymore. And yes, you can see any of the islands in a day.
If you're looking for similar striking landscape, I found the Burren
quite amazing--even more so than the Arans.
