There ARE administrative delays when you follow the standard national ways :-)
For our research class B networks, I registered them a long time ago without
any delay :
- directly in the US NIC database (no RIPE at that time) for the
- and by the way of INRIA for the connected status.
When I asked the NIC to correct some details, it did it without delays
[but RIPE never copied the updates ; it does not matter in fact].
For more recent networks, we decided to connect them at the moment of their
insertion in the french national research network, Renater. In such a
case, the operator France Telecom first asks Renater to register ; 2d,
Renater asks Inria to register ; 3rd, Inria asks Ripe to register, 4th ...
5th or 6th the core gateways are updated.
PS It is just a statement, not a critic. With the present expansion, there
are a lot of new networks to register, with a manpower of course not tailored
for such peaks.
