In response to the person asking about texts for a course, I looked up a few
titles in my slender library. From courses in grad. school about 10 years ago,
The Course of Irish History, ed. T.W. Moody and F.X. Martin.
paper, $10.95, Mercer Press, 4 Bridge St., Cork
21 chapters on verious time periods in Irish history, from "prehistoric" to
about the 1960's; each chapter by a different scholar; I think it was put
together after a radio or TV show but am not sure.
The Imagination of an Insurrection: Dublin, Easter 1916 by William Irwin
Thompson - paper, $7.95, Lindisfarne Press, W. Stockbridge, MA
A cultural history (further subtitle: A Study of an Ideological Movement) of
the Irish Literary Renaissance and Irish nationalism
Caveats: I haven't read these books in some years, and don't know if they're
still in print or at those prices. Both are very much worth reading and having
as I recall. Hope this helps.
