Dear James (Marchand) et al:
I have been rummaging through some of my bibliographic files, and wonder
if any of you can recommend research works which view optimistically the
possibility of voyages to the Celtic NW European lands in ancient times?
I have a short list of works to take a look at - if you've any comments
I'd like to hear them:
A. L. Oppenheim "The Seafaring Merchants of Ur", _Journal_, Vol 74, 1,
January-March 1954, American Oriental Society
? Simkin, _The Traditional Trade of Asia_, 1968, Oxford Uni. Press
? Nadvi, _The Arab Navigation_, 1966, Ashraf
Jim, in reply to your query, no - I have not read Cyrus Gordon on the
Phoenicians. Sounds like you aren't recommending that I do???
But on the topic of the seafarers of the ancient world, I have indeed been
anticipating having some time (when??) to research all this a little further.
Any good recommendations?
Cheers and adios
