I would be interested to resurrect the theme first mentioned June 5 by
Donal (who also volunteered to look up more specific details). This is an
area I have been trying to get around to looking at more. I understand that
Knights Templar churches were often dedicated to Mary Magdalene or to St.John.
Were there other dedicantees (?? term), and were there any specific sites or
types of sites which were selected for some particular quality/esthetic or
political? Is there a good bibliography, which includes a look at the more
esoteric aspect of the Templars?
Were the Templars active thorughout Celtic countries, etc.? And in other lands,
did they choose to favor certain formerly Celtic areas (eg. West Country in
UK)? You also mentioned the severed head/martyred leader aspect. Was there
a strong link to the Sacrificial King aspect?
I believe there were several Templar strongholds in Somerset, and would like
to unveil this aspect to the St.John/Mary Magdalene churches, if possible.
