Thank you for your email; I appreciate it.
Not sure if this is of interest to our type-centric list, but email marketing platform Litmus has created a comprehensive page re use of GIFs in e-blasts. The post is very recent — it’s dated November 21, 2018:
Under the header “Email Client Support,” they say the following:
"While animated GIFs don’t work everywhere, support across most email clients is exceptional. Animated GIFs work in all webmail clients and most desktop and mobile clients. The main exceptions are Microsoft Outlook 2007, 2010, and 2013, which all refuse to animate the GIF and instead displays [sic] only the first frame of the animation."
What you observed in your email client, Outlook 2007, is 100% in line with the above. Curiously, some even *older* versions of Outlook (2000–2003) *do* have support for animated GIFs! Go figure.
So, should you elect to remain on the Delve Fonts mailing list (we’d love to have you, by the way), you might miss out on our occasional animated content. What you’ll never miss out on, though, are messages crafted with a lot of love, a high degree of typographic geekery, and gentle humor.
Hope you’re doing well in Victoria; I imagine it’s the same where you are, but it’s quite cloudy, breezy and chilly here in Vancouver today. Good day for a cup of tea next to a warm fireplace.
All the Best,
