I was just mucking around in the Annals of Ulster (I was originally looking
in CELT for some references to "Macha's acorn crop" , as would apply to the
phrase 'the heads of the fallen warriors' ).. and anyway, I came across the
Kalends of January second feria, twenty-seventh of the moon. AD 663.
Darkness on the Kalends 1st of May at the ninth hour, and in the same summer
the sky seemed to be on fire."
That sparked my curiosity as to the veracity of the report of an eclipse, so
I got out the CyberSky and bingo! On May 1st, AD 664 at 9am viewed from
Dublin is a full solar eclipse, as attached image shows (hope OK to attach
to this list). This may all be rather well known, but thought at least some
of us here would be delighted at that accuracy. Also supports the year shift
in dating that has been recognised.
