This phrase from your note really caught my eye:

What is it that you think America is prepared for? From my perspective as a citizen, it seems to me that the US is blindly hurtling toward destruction ... not only do we have dysfunctional systems (e.g., education, health care), crumbling infrastructure (roads, sewers, water supply, and internet), and a rapidly decreasing industrial base, but we are COMMITTED to our oil addiction and to being the world's policeman / emperor. On top of all this we have become very nearly the most grossly unequal society in the world (in terms of income distribution) and the govt seems to be almost totally captured by the very wealthy and unable to deal with any of our real problems.
It seems to me that the US is living in a fantasy world that is rapidly collapsing all around it.
