Is chemical precipitation a fundamental kind of emergence?
The inorganic evolution of life continues to fascinate.
My favourite from the recent work is Langton's Ant.
Really hard to beat for elegance and simplicity- It seems deterministic to
me but it is prima facie "emergent"- though not perhaps in the way we
per Bak had a very elegant random evolutionary "extinction" automaton (p.
4084 "Our model...") which maybe helpful.
Perhaps there's a composition of these two approaches waiting to get out...
