As part of the move out of the HEAnet PoP in Data-electronics, HEAnet needs
to move our national backbone link from Dundalk from Data-electronics to
our new PW PoP at Interxion in Parkwest, Dublin. In order to do this we
need to splice and test some fibre between Dundalk and ParkWest. Although
the splicing will only take an hour, we need to perform an OTDR trace along
with ILM/CD/PMD tests and move the transmission equipment. We also plan to
leave a 10G test on the fibre for 24 hours.
There will be a loss of resilience on National network due to the fibre
between Dublin and Dundalk being down.
20100524 11:43 TG Opening ticket to schedule PEW
20100527 15:54 TG ESBT are commencing work at 06:00 between Cathleen Falls
and Letterkenny POP sites until 08:00, this means that between 07:00 and
08:00 LYIT's traffic will re-route via
Belfast->Dundalk->Galway->Limerick->Dublin as HEAnet are working on Dublin
to Dundalk link. LYIT's An Cheim traffic will suffer an outage during this
HEAnet Dublin Dundalk work can be tracked here:
20100529 09:16 JB - ESB Works completed. Connectivity was lost between
Cathleen Falls and Letterkenny from 06:05 and 07:45. The ESBT work is now
complete and this part of the network will be monitored over the weekend.
HEAnet works between Dundalk and Dublin are ongoing
20100529 17:45 JB - Fibre splicing was completed successfully and 10G
testing underway until tommorow morning. A small increase in latency to
DKIT (from 3ms to 9ms) as the traffic is rerouted.
20100530 12:23 EK The transmission equipment has been moved from HEAnet
Datelectronics PoP to HEAnet Parkwest PoP. Testing for 24 hours of the link
has been completed successfully and resilience to the national backbone has
been restored. The HEAnet national network link from Dundalk IT now
terminates in the new HEAnet Parkwest PoP (Dublin) rather than in the old
Kilcarbery Park(DEG) PoP. Closing ticket.
