I thought I'd do a sort of summing up rather than reply to individual messages as I'm
very conscious of global warming and my rationing of posts here will ensue a reduction of
hot air and thus contribute to the lowering of global temperatures.
After my hormonal adolescent exit I noticed with dismay Barry's apology which of course
was totally unnecessary for two reasons:
1. Statements such as "I'm sorry" are, in my not so humble opinion/experience,
meaningless. I find a simple acknowledgement of what happened and why it happened
and any remedial action taken (if necessary) much more effective.
2. What Barry said was an honest expression of how he felt and a mild rebuke to me. A
very polite mild rebuke!
So for the above reasons, Barry, I do not accept your apology and hope you were
laughing yourself silly when you wrote it.
Having read his apology I dashed off an email to Roger, telling not to dare apologise to
me! I did this just in case Roger might have decided to join in the fun.
It's very slow going through all the messages here since I threw my hissy fit. Not because
of the standard of the messages but because of the slowness of the net so I'll make this
If cybernetics is going to be a force for change in the world then it is important that it
becomes accessible for all, Yes, that is an old argument here but we are still a million
miles away from that happening. At the moment, mention Cybernetics to the man in the
street and they think of strange shiny metallic looking homicidal borgs a la The Avengers.
Come to think of it a bit like the members of this list, lol.
It seems to be that it's business as usual here, endless abstract debates with little
practical work. Look at the failure of the Cybernetics Wikispace and my own VSM4
Business Wiki. I just gave up as there was no real interest. Now I do admit that I have to
take some responsibility for that. I obviously did not pitch my site in such a way to excite
those here but then again it was supposed to pitched towards businessmen so I doubly
Also what happened to the Warranted Knowledge debate? Again it fizzled out maybe
because it meant that some sort of actions would have to be taken? I feel that Warranted
Knowledge would have been the ideal way forward that might start to repair the
deservedly shattered reputation of the Global Warming scientists.
Yes, there is a great danger of Warranted Knowledge being abused but that's what
humans sometimes/often/always do. However I'm sure safeguards can be built into this.
Whatever happens, the huge gap between the cybernetic theorists on one side and those
that want to see more action and more diffusion of cybernetics amongst the population
should at least start being bridged.
