In searching for something today, I came across this jewel of a
quotation from Eoin Mac Néill, as published as a footnote in Ériu:
In many cased, the mythological ancestor is a female. We need not
suppose as many gods as eponymous ancestors. There is clear evidence
that Irish gods rejoiced in a profusion of synonyms."
Just thought it might raise a smile amongst some of those still trying
to sort out our gods for us.
