Hello IR Trad Listers,
I thought those of you who are interested in fusing of traditional Irish and jazz music would be interested in this session on Sunday night 31st Jan with Brian Dunning on Flute/ panpipes/ whistles and bodhrán and Sean Whelan on guitar and Robbie Harris on bodhrán and percussion:
Sunday 31st January 2010
Doors 8.00pm Stage 8.30pm
Venue: JJ Smyth’s, 12 Aungier Street, Dublin 2
Event: Pendulum- Puck Fair
Brian Dunning has a breathtaking command of the flute, coupled with a most personal approach to jazz improvisation and traditional music. He returns here to the original framework of one of his most successful projects, bringing together the versatile guitar playing of Sean Whelan and the infectious grooves of percussionist Robbie Harris. Twenty one years on from the original line up’s debut release Fair Play, Dunning, Whelan and Harris have released Forgotten Carnival, an all acoustic affair that reboots the Puck Fair signature of Celtic inflection and jazz spontaneity for the 21st century.
You can hear some of the music on myspace here: http://www.myspace.com/puckfair
It will give you an idea what to expect.
