Concerning the Slieve Gullion Festival. It was essentially an event run
from within a fairly small community. It was cancelled some years ago
because of funding difficulties but continued for several years
informally without organization - people just turned up to sing.
However, about two years ago, it was cancelled completely because of
the death of John Campbell, supreme story teller, singer and
performance partner of Len Graham. Afterwards the organizers had not
the heart to continue and one of them is now ill. It is therefore very
unlikely that there will be any revival.

Subject: Traditional Singing Workshops and Festivals
Apologies for cross posting. I am hoping some of the members of both
lists might be able to assist in my queries..
Many of you know that I maintain a web page on traditional Irish
singing. Those who want to check it out,
the URL is: http://www.irishrochester.org/SINGERS%20WEB/singers2.htm
I am in the process of updating the listings for 2010. If you know of a
festvial or workshop featuring traditional Irish singing styles, I
would be glad to hear.
There are two in particular about which I am eager to hear more.
The first is Sean Nos Milwaukee. Offered for the past several years on
the campus of U of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, the workshop was cancelled
last year. Does anyone know if it will be offered in 2010, and if so
dates and instructors? I have contacted the university but have not
heard back yet.
The other festival I would like more information concerning is the
Slieve Gallion Festival. I know it was not offered in 2009 but I am
hoping that there might be some effort to revive it. Does anyone have
any information on efforts to revive it?
