The "ending" discussion of the 'acán/agán reminds me of the double diminutive "ocán" explanations given for the following personal names/root of certain surnames.
and non-personal names:
Is the author of article linked below in "Transactions, Volume 20, by Gaelic Society of Inverness" correct these are examples of double diminutive?
In the case of "O Muireagáin" of Teffia, the surname is sometime written as "O Muireadaig". So I not sure about the double diminutive being true?
