GRMA, I'll follow that up. A comment added to my blog entry called
attention to a website that says this figure is an Icelandic "end-
strife" pictogram. I have not been able to trace that idea anywhere
so far, but the same site also has a photo of an engraved stone from
Cloontuskert in Co. Roscommon which they describe as
> a combination of motifs: the 'cross-crossy' and the sacred Jewish
It looks a lot like the Ballintaggart "cross", but with a more
elaborate head which does indeed resemble a menorah.
