Low light levels and intermittent flaps have recently been seen on the
JANET fibres and the cause of these is being investigated.
JANET have requested a four hour outage on the fibres so that intrusive
testing can be carried out, and this is planned to take place on Tuesday
24th February, between 17:30-21:30 GMT.
The work will mean that the direct connections to JANET, and the backup
GEANT connection are unavailable during the maintenance window. During the
maintenance window connectivity to JANET and GEANT will instead be provided
over the primary GEANT connection.
Autobahn circuits to Frankfurt will be disrupted during the work.
20090216 15:03 PC - Opening ticket to track the work.
20090217 17:00 CS GEANT reference is 1505825
20090218 12:00 PC - JANET ticket reference 106332
20090220 17:41 PC - This work has been moved forward as emergency
maintenance due to repeated issues today with the GEANT backup circuit.
The work will be carried out by Verison at Erne Street tonight beginning at
20090223 09:46 PC - The maintenance work was completed by Verison at 20:12
and the circuits have been stable since (though were affected by other
JANET planned work on Saturday). Have requested further details from JANET
to confirm that the issue has been resolved.
20090223 13:36 CS Janet have just received information from Verizon that
they will need access for a Ciena engineer into HEAnet for tomorrows
maintenance (the originally scheduled work).
Verizon have informed Janet that the emergency maintenance was successful,
and that tomorrow's maintenance should resolve further issues.
We observed more flaps of our Geant backup circuit to Paris last evening.
Awaiting name of Ciena engineer for access request.
20090224 17:26 CS Maintenance has begun by both HEAnet engineer (for fibre
cleaning) and Verizon/Ciena engineer.
