I'll vouch for the fact that both Tommy and Noel often play in Eb, if the
recorded evidence is insufficient. I've seen and played with them both in
contexts where they've asked me to tune up.
It's also not a new thing at all. "Molloy, Brady & Peoples" was recorded in
Eb, as was "Noel Hill & Tony Linnane". But it also needn't be an exclusive
thing. With Tommy, it would depend on whether he feels like it (which he
sometimes does--nice thing about a fiddle), and with Noel it would mostly be
a matter of which concertina he happens to have handy.
