"And although it seems not many people knew Martin O`Malley"
I repeat that tens of thousands of people knew Marty Malley and were
informed and educated by him.
Micheál Ó Domhnaill was a friend of mine, he was the same age as
me. We were buddies from about the time we turned twenty. I knew his
father and his mother and all his siblings. I was at family
weddings. I went to a football match in Croke Park where I had
arranged to meet him, and I was told thereat that he had tragically
died that morning. I nearly lost my reason when I was told. I didn't
write anything to this forum because I expected somebody else might.
But there is a fine website devoted to him.
It's easy and handy and fine and dandy to commemorate the people you
remember from records. I didn't know Paddy Canny, although I sat in
his company a few times. I said something here the other night about
a man I knew very well. Why don't you go to your album sleeve notes
and write an obit for Paddy Canny and Micheál? And if you can even
conceive what the grace and gentle nature of people like Marty Malley
has bequeathed to the music on your Ipod, you'll put an end to your
growling. FAME isn't everything.
